Expressive Arts Therapy for Depression
“I could say things with color and shape that I couldn’t’ say any other way – things I had no words for” -Georgia O’Keeffe
Using art within the therapeutic process provides a way to gain understanding through self-expression. The emotions that often accompany depression can be hard to express through words alone, therefore exploring through imagery, symbolism, and metaphor can help tap into and release deep feelings.
The goal of this workshop is for people to walk away with an increased insight into their experiences with depression, and what is needed to tend to it in healthy and meaningful ways. Participants will be invited into and guided through a spontaneous and instinctive creative process involving collage, drawing and creative writing.
*No prior art experience needed*
