Wom(b)an: Reclaiming the Dark Feminine is a workshop on exploring, accessing, and enlivening the sacral center of empowerment that lives within the womb of the woman. Often welcomed into our society is the Light Feminine. She is soft and receptive. Graceful and allowing. These qualities are beautiful and very much a part of what it means to be feminine, but they are not the whole of us. As with anything else, there is a light and a dark within us all. One is not better than the other, and engaging with both are necessary to being fully embodied.
Often suppressed is the Dark Feminine. She is emotional expression, chaos before the order, death and rebirth, sensuality, se.xuality. She is empowered, fierce, sets boundaries out of love and connection to herself. A wild, creative force. As a result of being the less encouraged aspect of femininity, the Dark Feminine often becomes the side of ourselves we are less connected with. The side that is less expressed. Therefore, many women find it next to impossible to ask for what they desire, and express clear boundaries for what they do not. We are made to feel guilty and ashamed of our emotions by being told there is no space for them, or they mean something negative about us. Our innate connection with the life giving energy of se.xuality gets named manipulative or deceitful, so we cover up. Ultimately, we are taught to hide who we are and how we are feeling in order to be socially acceptable, disconnecting us from our strength and power.
But times are changing, and more and more women are reclaiming what has been shamed out of us. Join us on this journey of reclamation as we use meditation, yoga, and art making to embody the qualities of the Dark Feminine. Her energy comes through differently for each of us. Just as practicing yoga on the mat informs our lives off the mat, discovering your unique expression outside of day to day life will nurture those same shifts moving forward. As we become closer with these hidden selves, we clear the way to allow our power to shine through.
From the darkness of the womb emerges the light of creation. May we feel empowered to create the dares, dreams, and desires we choose.
